I am stationed in Alameda, CA Active Duty Coast Guard. Just received a red cross message that my sister has passed away in Texas. Tried to get my airfare paid to fly from CA to TX to attend her funeral but they are telling me that JFTR regs say I have to pay out of pocket, because I am flying CONUS to CONUS. Is this right? I thought that the military pays for me to attend an immediate family members burial. It just doesn't seem right to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I was just curious because they did pay for me and my family to attend my grandmothers funeral last year in Hawaii, because she raised me. They said if I was stationed OCONUS I'd be able to get funded travel. And the Army is paying for my brother and his family to attend so I am just confused. Not sure if it makes a difference but my sister that passed is or was active duty Army as well passed of Cancer. Just found out that the Army will be paying for all of us (my siblings) to attend my sisters funeral in TX even those of us who aren't in the military, including my dad. My sister would have retired next year with 20+ yrs of service. Just got our itinerary from SATO and we are set to go. Learn something new everyday.... Read More »
